“Classical rebels” do not just refer to exceptional composers or exceptional instrumentalists. These birds of paradise of their time often had strong characters and, if necessary, would go headlong into the wall. Although most classical composers lived according to the rules and had to do so – after all, composing was a business that was mainly sold to the nobility – there were exceptions. Less in a rebellious way against the nobility, but more in a rebellious way against the prevailing social norms: Clara Schumann, wife of Robert Schumann, led an eventful life. She was popular throughout Europe in a male-dominated music world and had prominent fans such as Goethe, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Paganini. First she stood up to her father and later to her husband! Hear the complete story about a strong woman and rebel in my new podcast #klassikistgeil : Klasskrebellen-Edition.
