This year, The Dark Tenor is expanding the album in a beautiful "Christmas Deluxe" version, with a total of three new studio songs. These three new songs were written in Helsinki, together with Erik Nyholm, Marcus Winther-John and Kristoffer Karlsson, with whom Billy has already written Dark Tenor hits such as "Wild Horses", "Fade" and "Hurricane". They are songs specially conceived as their own winter and Christmas songs. "As a tenor, you are at home in the churches at Christmas," explains Billy. "In this job, Christmas is practically in your blood. So it was a really great experiment to make your own Christmas songs. And the fans have always wanted it!" On the one hand, these new songs are the familiar, big, symphonic songs of a Dark Tenor, with orchestra, power and grand gestures, but at the same time they are almost intimate gems that couldn't be more fitting for the end and change of year.
The first single "Coming Home", for example, not only describes a return to Christmas with the family, but more fundamentally a long-awaited homecoming: to the people with whom you feel at home; to the place where you belong. A song that speaks to the soul of many people, especially now that life is returning to a certain normality and you can hopefully celebrate carefree with your closest friends.
"Late December" describes the magical winter time that we have all dreamed of since childhood. A snowy street at night, warm lights in the distance, the quiet of small towns and villages. A special peace that can only arise at this time of year. This song brings back memories of Enya, as Billy Andrews himself describes it, without diluting what makes his music so unique and intense.
“This Is Christmas” is a typical The Dark Tenor number that, like “Hurricane” or “The Hunger”, rises to its full height to celebrate the joy of the Christmas season. Here you can already feel the feeling of happiness and cheerful security that you find on these days. A celebration of the idea of Christmas itself.
